Botto Photography Trust.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The recent testimony by Lamar McKay, Chairman and President of BP America, brought to mind <a title=\"Ken Botto\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenbotto.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Botto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In his testimony, Mr. McKay says, &#8220;Tragic and unforeseen as this accident was, we must not lose sight of  why BP and other energy companies are operating in the offshore,  including the Gulf of Mexico.&#8221;\u00a0 We all benefit from motorized transportation, so we know why he&#8217;s there.\u00a0 But &#8220;unforeseen&#8221;?\u00a0 Of course not.\u00a0 BP made an economic calculations not to cover the eventuality that is turning out to be the worst oil spill in history.\u00a0 Dr. Joseph Romm writes about it on <a title=\"Climate Progress\" href=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/2010\/05\/01\/oilpocalypse-now-wsj-reports-bp-oil-disaster-may-be-leaking-at-rate-of-1-million-gallons-a-day\/\" target=\"_blank\">Climate Progress<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This brought to mind the line coming out of the Bush Administration after 9\/11 that no one could have foreseen airplanes being flown into buildings.\u00a0 Of course, US intelligence had been grappling with the prospect of terrorists and airplanes for at least five years.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brownsvilleherald.com\/news\/qaida-2929-intelligence-government.html\">one example<\/a>.\u00a0 The CIA has entertained the idea since the 1970&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and then there was Ken Botto, a photographer in Bolinas who came up with the idea in 1984 as part of his series on <a title=\"Ken Botto set up photography series\" href=\"http:\/\/kenbotto.com\/enter\" target=\"_blank\">Barbie and Robots<\/a>.\u00a0 The picture is aptly titled &#8220;Quick Change the Channel.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"rtsocial-container rtsocial-container-align-right rtsocial-horizontal\">\n<div class=\"rtsocial-twitter-horizontal\">\n<div class=\"rtsocial-twitter-horizontal-button\"><a title= \"Tweet: Oops!
